Rollers instead of skates: the iconic skating rink at Rockefeller Center will turn into a rollerdrome in spring and summer

Things are about to change at Rockefeller Center! From April 15th, his legendary skating rink will be transformed into a fabulous 1980s rollerdrome that will be there all summer long. The initiative was introduced by Liberty Ross, the daughter of Ian Flipper Ross, who discovered the legendary Palace Roller Boogie in Los Angeles in 1979. A place where "punk rockers and disco queens can come together". New York will taste this nostalgic magic during six months of warm weather.

In fact, the roller skating rink will be slightly smaller than the ice rink, as it will leave more space for spectators to watch the skaters or hang out with their snacks. This is all thanks to the new renovations that Tishman Speer is carrying out to restore the original architectural vision of the square, namely:
- Rink Level is a large entrance from the Plaza and Channel Gardens allowing circulation throughout the center both on the street and at Rink Level.
- Glass doors, surrounding the rink, restore the ability to easily get in and out and look at the skaters on the square.
- Sunken Square is being transformed into a gathering place with tables, chairs and green spaces that allow the public to flock to Rockefeller Center's shops and restaurants.
The skating rink will be officially opened from April 15 to October 31, its opening hours: from Monday to Wednesday - 10:00-22:00; from Thursday to Friday - 10:00-12:00; on Saturday - 8:00-12:00; on Sunday - 8:00-22:00.
Tickets can already be booked online here, cost: $20 for adults, plus $10 for skate rental.
