To protect the streets of New York from the actions of provocateurs and marauders disguised as protesters over the murder of African American George Floyd, the Russian-speaking community of Brooklyn began to form its own patrols. One of the authors of the initiative, Isaac Boltyansky, told what exactly they want to achieve by this. “We want this to end sooner. We want to unite our voices and ask the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, to give the police the right to use the strength and skills that they must demonstrate, ”Boltyansky said.

The idea of ​​creating popular patrols belongs to two activists.

We created a WhatsApp chat, invited friends, and in exactly one night gathered more than 500 people. We have not only Russian speakers - there are Jews, Muslims, Christians. But mostly Russian-speaking, - said the activist. “We have everyone who wants to stick together and prevent such things from happening in our part of Brooklyn. We don’t want such things to happen anywhere. ”

The main goal pursued by the activists is to restore order in New York, primarily in Manhattan and the Bronx.

Members of the group have already begun patrolling in their area. “We asked people to go out into the street and carefully look, for example, if there were objects hidden somewhere in the district that could be used with malicious intent during the protests,” Boltyansky said.

For example, activists are looking for hiding places with stones and Molotov cocktails. “We ask people to do this and pay attention to what is happening around,” Boltyansky explained.

The activists do not have weapons with them. Their only weapons are telephones with which you can call the police if something suspicious is noticed. “But if it suddenly happens that the police cannot protect us, people are ready to protect themselves, their families, their businesses, their lives,” he said.

Earlier, the activist recalled, the mayor called on the police for maximum restraint. The police were even deprived of the right to self-defense - after all, the very situation when an officer directs a weapon at a protester, according to Bill de Blasio, is unacceptable.

Boltyansky recalled a case when a brick was thrown at the head of a cop. “Only after that did the other policeman take out a weapon - because they were already preparing to be torn to pieces,” Boltyansky said. - And after that, the mayor also says that they will study this incident, that maybe this policeman should be fired. This is absolutely unfair. "

“And the police should have the right to treat them like any other criminals,” the author of the initiative emphasized.
