Russian-speaking immigrant from New York was arrested for participating in the storming of the Capitol

The alleged participant in the storming of the Capitol - a Russian-speaking resident of New York - was detained after an acquaintance identified him in an image in the US Capitol building. Details told resource New York Postwho published a photo that contributed to the identification.
Anton Lunyk, 26, was arrested on May 11 at his home in Midwood, Brooklyn. He was charged with deliberate entry and stay in a guarded building and hooliganism.
According to court documents, Lunyk was arrested after a student who attended college with him saw a screenshot of a video of the storming of the Capitol posted on Twitter by the New York Post. This guy also provided law enforcement officers with the suspect's phone number and Instagram account information.
The tweet of the publication was about the white nationalist Tim Gionet, who was streaming the storming of the Capitol; Lunyk could be seen in the background of his recording.

In a screenshot posted to Twitter on January 7, Lunyk is wearing a gray hoodie over a red cap with the Donald Trump campaign slogan "Let's Make America Great Again". In the video, he is holding his cell phone and smiling broadly.

According to the investigation, there were several more photos and videos confirming Lunyk's participation in the storming of the Capitol, including he was spotted on video footage from surveillance cameras inside the Capitol.
License plate readers also recorded Lunyk's departure from New York on January 5 and his return hours after the Capitol riots.
Lunyk's lawyer Michael Weil did not respond to a request for comment. The next virtual hearing in the Lunyk case is scheduled for May 20.
The case is being conducted by federal prosecutors in Washington, DC.
Judging by the man's name, he comes from one of the post-Soviet countries, but the history of his immigration has not yet been found.
