Russian-speaking swindler Anna Sorokina was released from prison, but banned from using social networks

False German heiress Anna Sorokina released from prison. But she was banned from using all forms of social media, an immigration judge said Oct. 5, reports New York Post.

The 31-year-old swindler and heroine of Netflix's "Inventing Anna" has secured her release from the Orange County Jail. She has spent the last 17 months in ICE custody fighting deportation.

She is expected to be released on October 6 once she finds a place to sleep, her representative said.

Sorokin, who pretended to be a wealthy heiress named Anna Delvey and swindled New York socialites for years, must remain under 24-hour electronically monitored house arrest. She is required to post an additional $10 bail, according to the judge's order.

The scammer is banned from all social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram, where she has 1 million followers.

Sorokina served four years in prison after she was sentenced in 2019 on a series of government charges related to her years of fraud. She deceived the New York elite, not paying bills in luxury hotels and restaurants.

Six years later, when she was released from prison in 2021 for good behavior, Sorokina was rearrested by ICE agents. Since then, she has been held at the Orange County Correctional Facility.

The government argued that Sorokina should remain in detention because she posed a threat to society.

Her lawyer, Duncan Levin, said he was grateful for the court's decision to release Sorokin.

“The judge rightly recognized that Anna does not pose a danger to society. Although she still has a few hurdles to overcome regarding her release conditions, Anna is very happy to be released.”

In a letter published by the Daily Mail last month, Sorokina criticized the US immigration system, arguing that her imprisonment simply does not make sense.

“The prison I'm in is notorious for its understaffing problem. To help solve this problem, in the past few weeks alone, 61 immigrants have been removed from this facility without prior notice. They have been moved to a facility in Mississippi where ICE can support them at a lower cost,” she wrote.

“In the Orange County Jail where I await my fate, female inmates are placed in a general criminal environment,” she continued. “We are all the same,” wrote Anna

Recall: in February 2022, Deadline reported that Delvey was working with Bunim/Murray Productions to produce a documentary series. It picks up where the show "Inventing Anna" left off.

The goal is not only to simply tell the audience about Delvi's life and give more information about her story, but also to give her more freedom of action and she could tell her story.
