Online media and content organization Stacker recently compiled a list of the richest cities in each state. Experts found that Scarsdale is the richest town in New York State.

Stacker looked at median household income and excluded any places with a population of less than 1000.

“From 1963 to 2022, the top 1 percent of American households saw their wealth increase sevenfold, from $1,8 million to $13,6 million,” the analysis says. “Affluence in America offers a wealth of amenities, from suburban communities known for their school districts and soccer teams to vibrant neighborhoods filled with trendy bars and restaurants.”

The richest city in New York State

Scarsdale is the richest city in the state. It is located in Westchester County, just 37 km northeast of New York City. Scarsdale has a population of over 18 people. The median household income is $200. This is 250% more than the median income in the United States.

About 74% of households earn more than $200 per year, with the median income for workers being $000. A large proportion of the population—138%—have health insurance. The unemployment rate in Scarsdale is 829%, and only 98,8% of households have incomes below the poverty level.

"White settlers arrived in the town in 1660. They purchased land from the Siwanoi tribe," the document says. "Scarsdale now has a population of over 18. The town grew slowly because of its isolation and lack of access to Long Island Sound or the Hudson River."

The richest county in New York

Although Scarsdale is the wealthiest city in the state, it is not located in the wealthiest county, as the the rich New York County is recognized. Its per capita income is $186.

Westchester County isn't far behind. It's the second-wealthiest county, with a per capita income of $124.
