World's thinnest skyscraper completed in Manhattan

The final elements of the exterior cladding were completed at the 111 West 57th Street tower by SHoP Architects in New York. This ultra-tall skyscraper, which is both the thinnest in the world and the second tallest in the Western Hemisphere, is divided into Dezeen.
The construction of the tower, 435 meters high, was completed last week. Developers have announced that they are waiting for tenants to move in. Located on the so-called Billionaire Row in Midtown Manhattan, the tower designed by SHoP Architects reached its super-high height in 2018. Its height to width ratio is 24:1, making it the thinnest skyscraper in the world.
The construction of the tower was announced in 2013, and construction work began the following year. But in 2017, construction stalled for financial reasons. According to representatives of SHoP Architects, the tower is built from the highest strength concrete in the world. There is only one apartment per floor. Plus 14 more in the nearby Steinway building. This brings the total number of apartments to 60.
“We have replaced any preconceived notions about New York skyscrapers with the opportunity to do something that no one has ever done before,” said Gregg Pasquarelli, director of SHoP Architects. “As New Yorkers, we are incredibly proud to have created a new landmark for our city.”

The building tapers to a flat edge at its apex. Its eastern and western facades are clad in terracotta tiles with bronze inlays. Glass curtain walls overlook Central Park to the north and Lower Manhattan to the south. The interiors were done by Studio Sofield. The building has a 25-meter swimming pool. The project is equipped with everything you need, including a private dining room and a fitness center with a view of New York and a terrace.
Skyscrapers with a height of 300 to 600 meters are considered ultra-high. The developer's other project in New York City, the Brooklyn Tower, opened earlier this year.
