The New York City Department of Education has released the School Calendar for the 2024-3025 school year.

Important: when school closed due to bad weather or other emergencies, children will study remotely.
August
- August 19-20 (Tuesday-Wednesday): entrance exams
September
- September 5 (Thursday): first day of school;
- September 12 (Thursday): Evening parent-teacher conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K centers;
- September 19 (Thursday): evening parent meetings for secondary schools and D75 schools (for children with autism and developmental delays);
- September 26 (Thursday): evening parent meetings for high schools.
October
- October 3–4 (Thursday–Friday): weekend, Rosh Hashanah;
- October 14 (Monday): Closed, Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples' Day.
November
- November 1 (Friday): closed, Diwali;
- November 5 (Tuesday): day off, election day;
- November 7 (Thursday): afternoon and evening parent-teacher meetings for primary schools (students of these educational institutions will be dismissed three hours earlier);
- November 11 (Monday): closed, Veterans Day;
- November 14 (Thursday): afternoon and evening parent meetings for secondary schools and D75 schools (students of these schools will be dismissed three hours earlier);
- November 21 (Thursday): afternoon and evening parent meetings for high schools (students of these educational institutions will be dismissed three hours earlier);
- November 22 (Friday): afternoon parents' meeting for high schools (students of these schools will be dismissed three hours earlier);
- November 28–29 (Thursday–Friday): Thanksgiving weekend.
December
- December 24–January 1 (Tuesday, December 24.12, – Wednesday, January 01.01): winter holidays.

- January 21–24 (Tuesday–Friday): exams;
- January 27 (Monday): Professional Development Day; there are no classes in high school, all other students attend classes;

- January 29 (Wednesday): day off, Chinese New Year.

March
- March 6 (Thursday): afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K centers (students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early);

- June 6 (Friday): Office day; no classes in 3K, Pre-K, elementary, middle, K-12, or select D75 programs;
- June 10 (Tuesday): exams;
- June 11 (Wednesday): exams;
- June 17–26 (Tuesday–Thursday): exams;
- June 19 (Thursday): day off, Juneteenth;
- June 26 (Thursday): last day of school.
Student health requirements
In New York, children must undergo a physical exam, take a lead test, and receive certain immunizations before starting school.
