School calendar for the 2021-2022 school year in New York: important dates and weekends

With the onset of autumn, everyone is preparing for the new school year, which begins in New York on September 13th. Portal school.nyc.gov published a school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year for New York City public school students so you can plan. If your child is attending a ward, private or charter school, contact their school for a calendar.

Please note the following information: November 2 - New York local elections. On this day, full distance learning will be conducted for all schoolchildren.

On days of emergency school closings (due to weather or other reasons), parents should plan for their children to participate in distance learning.

School Calendar for the 2021-2022 school year for New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) public school students

• September 13 - the beginning of classes for all students
• September 16 - Yom Kippur, schools closed
• October 11 - Indigenous Peoples Day - schools closed
• November 2 - Election Day, full distance learning for all students
• November 3 - evening meetings of parents with teachers (up to grade 8)
• November 4 - afternoon meetings between parents and teachers (up to grade 8); the dissolution of students in these schools three hours earlier than usual
• November 10 - Parent-Teacher Evening Meetings (High Schools, K-12 & 6-12)
• November 11 - Veterans Day - schools closed
• Nov 12 - Parent-Teacher Afternoon Meetings (High Schools, K-12 & 6-12 Schools), disbanding students from these schools three hours earlier than usual
• November 17 - Parent-Teacher Nightly Meetings (District 75 Middle Schools and Programs)

• November 25-26 - Thanksgiving, schools closed
• December 24-31 - winter holidays, schools closed
• January 17 - Martin Luther King Day - schools closed
• January 25-28 - Regents exams
• January 31 - Day of professional development of teachers at schools 9-12 and 6-12, non-academic day for students of these schools
• February 1 - Lunar New Year, schools closed
• February 2 - the beginning of the spring semester (in schools with a semester model)
• February 21-25 - second winter break, schools closed
• March 2 - Parent-Teacher Evening Meetings (Elementary & K-8 Schools)
• March 3 - Parent-Teacher Afternoon Meetings (Elementary and K-8 Schools), disbanding students in these schools three hours earlier than usual
• March 9 - Parent-Teacher Evening Meetings (Middle & School Schools and D75 Programs)
