Discounts not for everything: what to buy and what to leave on the counter on Black Friday 2021

Black Friday is the day of discounts after Thanksgiving. This year's shopping holiday falls on November 26th. But you can already find some Black Friday deals in several stores. When reading about promotions and discounts, strive to shop wisely, advises Market Watch.

Here are a few categories of items worth buying this Black Friday, as well as those that are better to buy in a few months - prices will be more favorable than Black Friday.

Buy: laptops

Black Friday usually brings big electronics sales with it, and this year is no different. Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, Costco and Target have announced sales of various types of laptops at promotional prices this month. Expect discounts on Dell DELL, Lenovo, HP, LG, Samsung and MSI at Costco.

Don't buy: bed linen

DataWeave, a retail data and price analytics company, tracked prices of over 200 types of TVs sold by Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Kartik Bettapura, the company's CEO, says prices for the TVs they tracked have risen 7,4% this year from April to October.

As such, the decline in prices on Black Friday may not be as significant as it seems. Plus, the base price of many TVs has probably gone up. But it can't be denied that retailers are offering some of the biggest discounts on TVs during Black Friday. Therefore, if you are looking for a new TV, then it is worth taking advantage of the discounts.

Don't buy: winter clothing

Retailers can usually charge more for items that are in season and less for items that are not seasonal. Winter clothing such as coats and jackets will still be seasonal on Black Friday. Therefore, you probably won't find the biggest discounts of the year.

If you can postpone buying winter clothing for several months, then it is better to buy it closer to spring. At this point, stores will be selling winter clothes at huge discounts.

If you can't hold out and you need winter clothes now, then the best deals can be found at Macy's, Amazon and Kohl's.

Black Friday shopping tips

In all the commotion surrounding Black Friday stocks, be careful as well. When you see ads on your social media feeds, do some digging before giving the seller your financial information.
