New York City Hall announced on the launch of a WhatsApp channel, available in English and Spanish, for direct communication between the Eric Adams administration and New Yorkers.
On October 27, the channel began broadcasting messages from the Adams administration, information about city services, and content about New York communities, events and culture to subscribers.
WhatsApp is used by 2,4 billion people worldwide and more than 98 million people in the US, making it a key communications platform for immigrant and international communities in New York, where about 40% of the population was born outside the US. WhatsApp introduced Channels as a new product this summer and is already being used by businesses, celebrities, sports teams and newspapers around the world to communicate with tens of millions of people.
“Our administration is 'Getting Stuff Done,' and we want to tell New Yorkers what we're doing and how it can improve their quality of life,” said Mayor Adams. “Our administration is committed to reaching all communities that call New York home, including immigrants and foreigners who use WhatsApp to communicate every day.”
This program, available in English and Spanish, is another way to make sure New Yorkers know what their government is doing for them, how to access services, take part in events, and learn about the great events happening in New York City .
City Hall is constantly adding new ways to connect with New Yorkers. In August, the mayor’s office launched the program “Text With Eric” is an SMS communication program that allows the mayor to communicate one-on-one with New Yorkers on any issue they want to discuss.
In July they launched a radio program “Hear from the Mayor“, where New Yorkers can regularly call and discuss issues that concern them with the mayor. In January we launched a direct communications program “Hear from Eric“, an email-based program designed to bring New Yorkers information about local issues and priorities, and a podcast “Get Stuff Done-Cast“, in which the mayor shares the exciting challenges New Yorkers from all walks of life face every day to move New York forward.
