You might think that the answer to the question in which areas the richest people in New York live in is obvious. However, the truth may surprise you. The publication writes about this in more detail. Curbed.
The American Community Survey (ACS) researched this issue and provided its data. The organization tracked the average household income in various New York boroughs from 2013-2017. The city has broken down the figures it received from ACS into categories - demographic, social, economic, and housing - from which information was provided by neighborhood.
As it turned out, most of the richest quarters of New York are in Manhattan, but there are exceptions. So, here are the ten most prosperous quarters of the metropolis.
- Gramercy: $ 185,536
- Hudson Yards / Chelsea / Flatiron District / Union Square: $ 185.
- Upper West Side: $ 190,281
- Battery Park City / Lower Manhattan: $ 203,548
- Brooklyn Heights / Cobble Hill: $ 205,275
- West Village: $ 207,649
- Lincoln Square: $ 212,844
- Turtle Bay / East Midtown: $ 220,079
- Soho / Tribeca / Civic Center / Little Italy: $ 258,531
- Upper East Side / Carnegie Hill: $ 322,432
The fact that the Upper West Side is number one on the list should not be a surprise, given the concentration of wealth along the westernmost border of the area (Museum Mile and Gold Coast).
Soho / Tribeca, which are located on the second level of the rating, are also not surprising in their position, given the recent appearance of expensive buildings here, such as the famous 443 Greenwich Street or ultra-luxurious 70 Vestry, thanks to which more wealthy residents appeared in the area.

Only one non-Manhattan area was on the list, and it is not surprising that it was Brooklyn Heights / Cobble Hill, where some of the most expensive real estate properties in this area are located (and, accordingly, the richest residents live). He moved to sixth place (in 2017 he was in ninth place).
The area with the highest percentage of residents with a household income of $ 200 thousand and above is the Upper West Side, and almost 44% of its residents fall into this category.
However, the area with the highest total number of super-rich residents is also the Upper West Side, with almost 18 thousand inhabitants with a household income of $ 200 thousand and above.
The study took into account the areas indicated on the planning map of New York, so some of them (for example, Lincoln Square and the Upper West Side) are separated, while others (Soho / Tribeca / Civic Center / Little Italy) are located on the same level .
