Tragedy on the beach: three people tried to save each other from drowning, two of them died

Three members of the same family began to drown in a lake in the north of the state. Two of them eventually died. The edition told in more detail Fox5NY.

The New York State Police say it happened on White Lake in Bethel, Sullivan County.

Rescuers arrived around 14:00 pm after reports that three people had gone underwater and were unable to swim out.

Police say family members from Bellerose, Queens started bathing around 10:00 am.

At about 14:00 pm, 18-year-old Basir Amin began to drown in the deep part of the lake. His sister Nasreen Amin, 21, and his uncle Afrid Haider, 34, tried to help Basir.

All three went under water and did not come up.

Bethel Fire divers retrieved all three victims after they had been submerged for some time.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated and all victims were taken to Garnet Medical in Harris.

Basir Amin was declared dead immediately. Nasrin Amin and Afrid Haider were hospitalized in critical condition. Later it became known that Hyder had died.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are about 4000 unintentional fatal drownings and more than 8000 non-fatal drownings in the United States each year, or about 22 cases per day.

Non-fatal drowning injuries can lead to brain damage and other serious consequences, including long-term disability.
