Tragedy in Harlem: a 3-year-old boy crashed after falling from the balcony of a high-rise building

The kid crashed, falling from a high-rise in Harlem. The mother is heartbroken. She thought her son was playing in the next room until she saw the net on the balcony flapping in the wind, reports New York Post.

According to law enforcement sources, the parents told the cops that the mother and father of the baby were talking in the bedroom on the morning of July 2. And they thought that their 3-year-old son Jace Garcia was quietly playing in the living room. When the couple realized that they could no longer hear their son, they began combing the apartment. A 30-year-old mother ran into the living room, where she saw a dangling mosquito net on the balcony.

When she looked down from the 29th floor balcony, she saw her son's tiny body on the scaffolding on the third floor of a neighboring building.

Neighbors reported that they heard the mother screaming, “My baby!” after a tragic fall.

The boy's father, alarmed by his mother's scream, called 911. The police said they were called to the Taino Towers apartment complex at Third Avenue and 122nd Street around 11 am.

According to police, the baby was rushed to a Harlem hospital in critical condition. He soon died. Police believe the boy's death was an accident.

Most likely, the baby went out onto the balcony while his parents were in the other room. And then he climbed over a chair to look out the window, and fell out.

Due to the fact that the air conditioning in the building often does not work, many residents open the doors to the balcony.

The parents of the baby, who were interrogated in the 25th precinct after the incident, had a tense relationship in the past.

The records show that the baby's mother has an open file on charges of endangering the child's well-being, dating back to November. And the 24-year-old father appears in 9 reports of domestic violence - seven of them as a victim. Most of the cases against the couple dating back to 2018 have since been closed.

“The boy’s mother is very sick,” said 3-year-old maternal grandmother Cheris Young on July 49. Young, who lives in Connecticut, said Jace was a very happy child.

“His mother loved him very much,” she said. “It was a normal, loving relationship.”

Yang said she only met Jace's father a couple of times.

“I can't tell you about him because I don't really know him very well,” she said.

The mother's sister created a GoFundMe page for the family to provide Jace with a "proper funeral."
