Jennifer Vega spoke about a winter night on February 18, 2022, when her ex-boyfriend broke into her apartment bedroom window, cut her leg with a liquor bottle, and threatened her for hours.

According to Vega, she first called 911 when she noticed her ex Manuel Rivera trying to climb in through the window. The second call came about 30 minutes later, after Rivera cut her leg with a liquor bottle. After the second call to 911, the suspect went outside and spent two hours waiting for the police to handcuff him. He returned to her house two hours later, continued to threaten. The third time the woman called 911 was when her ex left her apartment after midnight.

“I didn't see when he did it,” she said of the cut. “I just felt a pinch. Then I called the police again to tell him to leave because my children were in the apartment.”

In the end, Vega treated the wound on her leg herself and went to bed as soon as her tormentor left.

Help finally arrived at 9:27 am the next day.

“The cops who showed up said they were monitoring my calls,” Vega, 30, said. - And I said to them: “What are you doing here when he has already left? He already did what he wanted. I'm hurt."

The woman was taken to a Bronx hospital for treatment, and Rivera was still at large three months later. The NYPD has launched an internal investigation due to a long delay in police arriving and investigating the attack.

"The incident is under internal investigation," an NYPD spokesman said. And the sources added that it appears the dispatcher did not notify police of Vega's calls. The first call was before Vega was hit by a vodka bottle. The caller said there was an argument with no injuries or use of weapons. That night, the 44th precinct was faced with a huge number of calls, the sources added.

The suspect remains wanted. The investigation is ongoing, a police source said.

Vega, a mother of five, dated Rivera for only six weeks. And then she broke up with him to make peace with her old boyfriend - the father of her children. She moved with the children to Pennsylvania two days after the incident. They returned in late March, Vega said the NYPD is now looking into the case more closely.
