MTA is testing a new air purification system in Metro-North trains. The agency claims that it can kill 99,9% of all germs, including COVID-19. The details are shared by the publication ABC7NY.
New York City's public transit traffic has dropped significantly amid the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, passengers return to the subway, simply not fast enough, say MTA.
In the midst of the pandemic, passenger traffic in Metro North fell 95%. That number dropped to 77%, meaning less than a third of nearly 300 passengers a day returned, or 86 million a year, before the pandemic hit New York.
People are slow to use public transport despite new and improved protections. For example, such as the one-of-a-kind filtration system that kills all germs and viruses launched by MTA.

This filtration system has three parts and blows air through the cab every three minutes. It is said to kill not only COVID-19, but also the flu and the common cold.
The air purification system is currently being tested in two carriages of Metro North trains. A year later, it will be launched on all trains on this suburban railway. Its launch will cost over $ 10 million.
Thereafter, the system will also be used on the Long Island Metro and Railways.
