This weekend, with a prosthetic leg and a Ukrainian flag in his hands, Ukrainian soldier Roman Kashpur ran the New York Marathon, according to reports. Bronx.news12.
Roman Kashpur is originally from Khmilnik; in 2016, he volunteered to defend his homeland. A year later he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2019, Roman Kashpur was injured: he stepped on an anti-personnel mine near Maryanka and, as a result, lost part of his leg. Despite his injuries, he continued to carry out intelligence missions after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The man is a Ukrainian record holder. The year before last, with a prosthetic leg, he set a Ukrainian record by lifting a 16-ton plane and became the winner of the Hero Games. During the 2020-2021 year, he won four gold medals in CrossFit, pull-ups and kettlebell pushes.
“My American dream has come true. Two marathons completed in seven days. I managed to officially improve the result of London, improve the result of Washington, but this is only the beginning. My mission does not end here. I will continue to run, I will continue to play sports, I will continue to motivate the guys as much as I can,” said Roman and noted that he continues to raise funds for his brothers for prosthetics. All proceeds will go to charitable foundation “Gromadyanin”".
