New York police shot dead an immigrant from Uzbekistan: he attacked his wife with a knife

On International Women's Day, an immigrant from Uzbekistan attacked his wife and stabbed her in the stomach. According to New York Post, the attacker was out of his mind, so the police had to shoot him.

A terrible tragedy in a migrant family occurred on March 8 in their home in Forest Hills. Relatives and friends gathered for the holiday, but no one expected such an outcome. The man, clearly out of his mind, attacked his wife in front of their children and guests - he stabbed her several times in the stomach.

According to one of the relatives, Jamshed Nematov has not been feeling well recently. “He was hallucinating. Perhaps it was depression, a mental disorder. Something was going on in his head,” one family member said.

The 46-year-old man was in severe physical pain due to a hernia that was preventing him from working, and mental problems began a month ago. He “saw things that weren’t there” and “talked strangely to himself.”

Death during detention

A 911 call was received regarding a stabbing. When the officers arrived at the scene, they ordered Nematov to put down the knife, but he refused and “rushed” at the police with a weapon. One of the law enforcement officers, a sergeant, used a Taser, and two officers fired their pistols at least four times. The man died on the spot.

Amira Nematova is now at Elmhurst Medical Center. She has already had one operation, but she may need another. Police said there was some kind of argument between the couple. A few hours before the stabbing, the woman called her brother and said that she and her husband were having “problems.”

The couple has four children. “They've been married for 20-odd years. They have a wonderful marriage. They were very happy. We don’t know how this could have happened,” said one of the relatives. Neighbors said they never heard the couple argue. However, a few minutes before the incident, they heard screams and then shots. The police tried to stop Nematov, who refused to drop the knife.

“We heard kids in the hallway walking back and forth, then everything went quiet for maybe a minute or two, and then four shots rang out,” said Marcella Rueda, a neighbor. - It's very scary. The shots were too loud.” According to her, she watched the couple’s four children grow up - two daughters, 23 and 20 years old, and two sons, 17 and 14 years old.

“We've heard a lot of arguing from other families on this floor, but not from this couple. Although last week, for the first time, some sort of showdown between them happened, but that’s all I know,” she said.
