Police officers made a gruesome discovery at 13 Linwood Street in East New York around 30:315 p.m. This happened after an unpleasant smell appeared in the house on the sixth floor, reports New York Post.
The police entered the apartment, where they found blood and human remains. They arrived after receiving a report that a 20-year-old woman living there had gone missing.
According to sources, a suspect has been identified. He is wanted for interrogation.
The NYPD was awaiting search warrants on September 20. An investigation into the "large amount of blood" found at the scene is ongoing.
A neighbor, 24-year-old Kim Angeles, said the property manager was the first to find human remains in a nearby apartment and called the police.
Other residents reported that the woman living in the apartment where the remains were found had a boyfriend with whom she often quarreled.
The medical examiner investigated the findings. They should become known on September 22.
