Iconic department store chain Ames is back 20 years after closing. The chain said in a statement that the first Ames department stores will open as early as early 2023. MSN.
The president of Cross Moline Ventures, the parent company that owns Ames department store, said it will open 7 department stores in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
The first Ames department store will appear in Connecticut, as the company's headquarters are located there. And a number of other stores will earn during 2023. An Ames store in Rhode Island is scheduled to open in 2024.
Accurate information on specific store locations and opening times will be available sometime in February 2023. Ames was originally headquartered in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, but will not be reopened. The new headquarters will be created in Meriden's department store (Connecticut).
The Ames chain was founded in 1958. It had more than 700 stores in twenty states of America. Ames became the fourth largest retailer behind only Walmart, Kmart and Target.
After 45 years of existence, the chain survived two bankruptcies and ceased operations in October 2002 - all stores closed, more than 21 employees were left without work.
Ames offers a wide range of merchandise, including apparel, affordable homeware, electronics, and more. In 2023, the chain intends to add food products to the assortment, and cafes will be opened in some outlets.
