On January 16, New York will host an evening in memory of the poet Joseph Brodsky. The event is scheduled for 18:30 at literary salon of the restaurant "Russian Samovar". The details of the event were given by the organization New Review World.
The main theme of the evening will be the American premiere of the new film Brodsky. Farewell”, created by Elena Yakovich. She is a laureate of Russian and international film festivals, the author of the film Walking with Brodsky.
The picture is based on a unique film of the Memorial service for Joseph Brodsky, which took place on the fortieth day after the death of the poet - March 8, 1996 - at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in New York. Brodsky's friends from all over the world read his poems. Among them are Rosanna Warren, Derek Walcott, Lev Losev, Yakov Gordin, as well as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Roman Kaplan.
It is symbolic that the first screening of the film will take place in the "Russian Samovar" in New York, a place so dear to Brodsky, with which many years of his life are associated.
During the evening of memory, Elena Yakovich will also talk about how the filming of Walking with Brodsky, her first film about Brodsky, took place in Venice in 1993.
Presentation of the painting “Brodsky. Farewell” will be held in Russian, the film will be in English and Russian.
