Gov Ball 2023 started in New York: what will happen there and how to get there

Three days of New York's most popular music festival returns to Queens this weekend.

Celebration Gov Ball 2023 started today, June 9, at noon in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. What you need to know before you go there.

How to get to the location

The festival will have a new home in 2023, moving to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens for the first time in its history, and hosted Citi Field last year.

There are two main ways to get to the park by train. If you're using Amtrak or NJ Transit, get off at Penn Station-NY and take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train on the Port Washington branch to the festival. Those coming from Grand Central should take train 7. The stop for both trains is Mets-Willets Point.

If you want to take a taxi or hitchhike, there is a designated pick-up and drop-off area on Shea Road. For cyclists, there is rover parking at the main entrance, but you need to bring your own padlocks.

Important note: there is no parking at the event, so the festival organizers encourage all concert goers to use public transport.

What time do the gates open

The gates open at 11:45 on each of the three days of the festival and the concerts end at 22:00.

How much do tickets cost and are they still on sale?

What is the composition of the artists

Lizzo, Odesza and Kendrick Lamar are headlining this year's Gov Ball and there are many artists performing at the festival every day. Diplo, Haim, Ice Spice, Lil Uzi Vert & Kim Petras Perform - Friday June 9th; Suki Waterhouse, Finneas, Lil Baby and Lauv - Saturday, June 10; Giveon, Sophie Tucker, Lil Nas X, Pusha T and Girl in Red take the stage on Sunday, June 11th.

In addition, many artists from the line-up will give nightly concerts around the city as part of the Gov Ball After Dark series.

What is the bag policy

The organizers said that all bags will be checked before entering. Small clutches and fanny packs measuring 6" x 9" (15cm x 23cm) or smaller do not need to be see-through, but may have only one pocket. Larger bags must be transparent but smaller than 12x6x12 inches (30x15x30 cm).

Hydration bags are allowed, they may be opaque, but must be empty of all liquids and contain a maximum of two pockets (other than the one containing the water tank).

What items are allowed inside

Below is the list of items that are allowed provided by the organizers:

• sunscreen;
• hats;
• sunglasses;
• earplugs;
• naloxone/narcan nasal kit in original packaging (no more than 2 per person);
• reusable light stick no larger than 11x4 inches (28x10 cm) and no more than 3 AAA batteries;
• non-professional film and digital cameras;
• Factory sealed water bottles (not glass) or, even better, bring an empty refillable bottle with you
• phone charger.

And this is a list of what the organizers prohibit at the festival:

• weapons of any kind;
• fireworks/explosives;
• illegal substances;
• tobacco/smoking products of any kind (including electronic cigarettes, vapes, etc.);
• foreign food - products are allowed for those who have special dietary restrictions, but only with a certificate from a doctor;
• large opaque backpacks or suitcases;
• picnic baskets;
• skateboards or personal motorized vehicles;
• large umbrellas;
• hard back chairs/garden furniture;
• pets;
• glass containers of any kind;
• Alcohol (will be sold at the festival);
• tools;
• chains / wallets with chains;
• nunchucks;
• selfie sticks;
• laser pointers;
• professional equipment for cameras;
• audio/video recording equipment;
• drones or hover cameras.
