December 19 in New York for the first time in 10 years, taxi fares increased, according to The Hill.
The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission voted last month to raise base rates from $2,50 to $3 starting this week.
The nightly allowance will increase by $1 from 20:00 to 6:16. And during weekday peak hours from 00:20 pm to 00:2,50 pm, a $XNUMX surcharge will apply.
Taxi fare between JFK International Airport and Manhattan will be $70. And for travel to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, you will have to pay an extra $20. There is a $5 surcharge for travel to LaGuardia Airport.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission, voting in November, cited falling drivers' incomes as the reason for the increase in fares.
The fare increase comes after Uber drivers in New York went on strike after they were denied a pay raise.
Uber quickly filed a lawsuit against the pay raise, arguing that the raise would cost the company millions and hurt the industry.
