For the first time in many years, New York made changes to an important rule: not everyone is happy

For the first time in decades, New York authorities have made major changes to the parking rule on the alternative side, writes NBC New York.

With the exception of one week in May, parking on the alternative side was suspended during the entire quarantine in the city. Therefore, drivers did not have to move parked cars to clean the streets. Now the rule of alternative parking will work again, but under new conditions.

Ambulance crews will only pass through residential areas once a week, meaning they will have to move cars less often (previously, cleaning was done twice a week).

The head of the city's sanitation committee, Catherine Garcia, explained that if there is only one day on the road sign for alternative parking, then cleaning will take place on that day; but if two days are mentioned on it (for example, Monday and Thursday), crews will only clean on the second specified day (in this example, Thursday).

The rule applies only to cars parked in residential streets, and not in special parking spaces. The committee noted that with the intensification of life in the city, the need for street cleaning has greatly increased and this process cannot be postponed further.

However, for some residents, this is not very good news, especially with other changes introduced by the city. In the West Village and the Lower East Side, where it was not easy to find a parking space before, now this task has become even more complicated due to the fact that restaurants have taken streets to provide services in open areas. The city allowed them to do this in order to support the business during quarantine.

New Yorkers also note that tables on the streets will greatly complicate the cleaning process.

The new parking rules on the alternative side are expected to be valid throughout the summer.
