Up to 30 cm of snow can fall in Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey. The strongest winter storm this season began its advance through the three-state territory (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut), reports NBC New York.
The storm prompted a range of warnings and advisories across the region. And while New York City will certainly be hit by the storm, snow accumulation is not expected in the city. Instead, there will be heavy rains and sleet. And travel throughout the region will be difficult for several days.
New York Governor Kathy Hokul declares state of emergency
Hokul said she deployed the National Guard to assist with the emergency response if needed. According to her, personnel prepared in advance for emergencies are also on site.
This storm will create hazardous road conditions through Wednesday morning.

Later, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in five counties of his state. He told a press conference that "we are talking about a foot (30 cm) of snow, so it could be a significant storm."
In almost all areas of the three-state during the evening and night of Monday there was continuous light rain. The usual set of winter storm precipitation (snow, rain, wind) began on Tuesday.

Snow and rain will continue in New York until Wednesday. However, the accumulation of snow in the city will be insignificant, as the air temperature is above zero.
This does not apply to Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey. Significant sleet is expected there with wind gusts up to 40 miles (64 km) per hour. The further to the north of the region, the greater the accumulation of snow is expected by Wednesday morning. In Sullivan, Dutchess, and Ulster counties, precipitation of 30 centimeters or more is possible. And in Westchester and Rockland counties, as well as in Fairfield County, Connecticut, a fall of 7-20 centimeters is possible.
The expected heavy and wet snow, combined with strong winds, could cause power lines and tree limbs to break, causing power outages. Con Edison said it is preparing for possible storm problems in the city.
On Wednesday morning, the snow will ease, but the winds will remain strong.
Temperatures will rise again for the rest of the week, with highs of +10 expected from Thursday to Saturday. The chance of rain will rise again on Friday and Saturday morning.
