MTA has unveiled a brand new all-in-one app for scheduling and service notifications. According to SecretNYC, the application is available for download, but for now only for the purpose of obtaining feedback. The new app is currently in beta testing and is intended to replace the current MYmta app.
Users will be able to get more information about subways, buses, the Long Island Railroad, and the Metro-North Railroad. In addition, users will be able to save favorite routes and stops to quickly view arrival times, book Access-A-Ride rides, receive location-based real-time updates, and check for elevator and escalator outages at different stations.
Real-time bus traffic tracking will be available through the app, as well as dynamic route maps and station views showing the status of ongoing service.
“If we want more customers to use public transportation, providing simple and intuitive travel tools is key,” said Shanifa Riara, MTA Acting Director of Customer Experience. “The new MTA app does just that, giving passengers the information they need with one or two taps,” she said.
The MTA is looking to get feedback from New Yorkers to help shape the future of the app.
The MTA currently intends to add features:
- additional push notifications;
- offline maps;
- dark mode;
- availability of Citi Bikes;
- additional regional transit services;
- a more convenient and integrated experience using Access-A-Ride;
- integration of bicycles, scooters and other transport services for trip planning;
- ticket sales for the Long Island Railroad and Metro-North Railroad;
- integration with feedback tools.
