New York and New Jersey state governments are advising all adults to get the COVID-19 booster shot. Writes about it ABC7NY.
Both states do not support the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and advise all adults in the community to get an extra dose if they wish.
The move comes amid a surge in cases in New York City. Here, the rate of positive results is now over 3% and about 2000 hospitalizations.
New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi said healthcare providers should allow adult patients to determine their risk of infection based on their individual circumstances.
This means that anyone over the age of 18 can get a booster dose if they want to. However, it must be at least six months since they received a full Pfizer or Moderna vaccination. It should be two months since they received a single dose of Johnson.

630 New Yorkers have already received the vaccine, and as the holidays approach, officials want to quickly increase that number.
“Additional doses are important for people at increased risk of infection,” Chokshi said.
“We live in New York, so we are all together,” said one resident. “We need to do more to protect each other, not just ourselves.”
Boosters can be made at pharmacies, doctors' offices and vaccination points.
You can also make an appointment for additional vaccinations at your home. The call number is 212-COVID-19.
