More than 10 people were attacked in the New York subway and buses in two weeks: three of them died

Three kills. Five stab wounds. Countless other attacks. Over the past two weeks, more than a dozen people have been brutally attacked in the New York City transit system, reports New York Post.

More New Yorkers are returning to the subways and buses in the wake of the pandemic. Therefore, the number of major crimes related to transit has increased by almost 42% this year compared to 2021.

Although crime in transit this year is 5% lower than in the same period in 2019. Before the pandemic reduced passenger traffic, violence was a constant problem for commuters, many of whom have no other way to get around.

Here are the most high-profile cases in the last two weeks.

1 September 30: A father of two is mortally stabbed on the L train

Tommy Bailey, a hard-working father of two known as a Canarsie legend for his sportsmanship, was stabbed to death on his way home from work.

He had an argument with 43-year-old Alvin Charles during the trip and was fatally stabbed in the neck by a homeless man near the Atlantic Avenue station.

Those close to Bailey, also 43, have argued that his death could have been prevented. The fact is that Charles was released on bail for a similar stabbing on the subway that occurred in July 2021.

“If they [then] did something about it, Tommy would be alive. And we wouldn't be talking right now,” said Jaylene, Bailey's 18-year-old neighbor in Canarsie. “His death is on their conscience. No common sense. It is sad".

2 Oct 1: MTA bus driver stabbed at work

A 52-year-old MTA bus driver was stabbed to death by an angry customer on a Saturday morning in Harlem.

The suspect became angry with the driver when he did not open the rear doors of the bus. This prompted him to approach the driver, spit at him, and slash him twice on his left forearm. And also threatened to go for a gun.

“I live in these projects,” the suspect told the injured driver before fleeing.

3. October 2: Attack of the 'Green Goblin'

A group of women dressed in fancy neon green bodysuits attacked and robbed two 19-year-old girls at the Times Square subway station around 2am.

“She said she was attacked by aliens,” said the mother of one of the victims the day after the attack.

“Yesterday was her birthday. Here's how she spent her 19th birthday. I hope they get what they deserve because it's disgusting."

The suspects escaped with a mobile phone and a purse and remain at large.

4 Oct 3: Man accidentally pushed onto subway tracks in Union Square

A 25-year-old passenger waiting for train number 6 was suddenly pushed onto the railroad tracks around 21:30 pm by an emotionally unstable homeless man.

A few hours after Clarence Anderson pushed the man who was saved by kind people, he attacked another New Yorker. Here the victim was a construction worker working near Columbus Circle.

“He was not supposed to be on the streets,” said the victim on the subway. He needed 18 stitches to close the wound on his head.

“I will no longer take the subway after seven in the evening. Something needs to be changed or fixed,” he said.

5. October 4: A man was shot at the Times Square subway station

A 31-year-old man was shot in the leg at a tourist center after he got into a fight with another guy just after 23 p.m.

A dramatic video posted to Twitter shows officers treating an injured and bleeding man on a subway platform, trailing blood.

It is unclear what caused such a commotion.

6. October 6: A man was accidentally stabbed after being stabbed with his shoulder.

A 59-year-old man was stabbed in the shoulder around 13:00 p.m. at 125th Street Station A, B, C, and D in Harlem.

Victim missed his stop and climbed the stairs to get to the southbound platform. Then he ran into someone who blocked his path and patted him on the shoulder, police said.

The couple then began to argue before the suspect drew a knife and stabbed him.

7 October 6: Man stabbed, possibly for wearing the wrong color

A 45-year-old man was stabbed in the face as he passed through a turnstile at the "A" train station at the intersection of Pitkin and Grant Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn, around 17:00 pm.

The victim told police that she did not know her assailant. But he was wearing blue, and the attacker may have thought he was a gang member.

The suspect fled on a scooter.

8. October 6: A man is mortally stabbed on his way home.

Charles Moore, 38, was on his way home from his job at Citi Field around 22:30 p.m. when he was stabbed to death at the intersection of 176th Street and Jerome Avenue.

Sakuan Lemons, 27, allegedly killed his father by accident on a crowded platform. This was stated by prosecutors during the presentation of charges against him in the murder.

Lemons' lawyer demanded that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

9. October 8: Teen hunted, beaten and stabbed on the Upper East Side

The 17-year-old victim was returning home from his job at the Shake Shack on Saturday afternoon. He was attacked at the intersection of East 53rd Street and Lexington Avenue. As a result, he received six stab wounds.

The attackers, dressed all in black and wearing masks on their faces, came to the teenager's work and asked where he was. And then followed him on the subway.

10. October 9: Father of four is fatally stabbed on a bus

Lamont Barkley, 55, was riding a BX19 bus around 20:30 p.m. Sunday when he was killed by a woman and a man he was arguing with.

Police and neighbor sources said that prior to the fatal stabbing, Barkley had an argument with a woman at a nearby bar, Glen Roy's Public House. She called the man to come to the area.

At some point, the trio boarded a bus, where a man and woman attacked Barkley, the sources said.

Ebony Jackson, 42, was taken into custody in connection with the incident and charged with murder and manslaughter on Monday.

11. October 10: A woman was hit on the head in an accidental attack.

A 49-year-old woman waited for train number 2 at the Cathedral Parkway subway station in Harlem around 2:30 am on Monday. Suddenly, she was hit on the head with an unknown object.

According to the cops, they did not exchange a word before the stranger who attacked her fled.
