Free apartments in the Bronx: a new housing lottery with $0 rent has launched

A lottery has opened in New York to provide rent-free housing in the Bronx for low-income pensioners, reports Bronx Times.
New York is sweepstakes for 53 apartments in a 14-story mixed-use building in Soundview.
The apartments are offered without rent. They are intended exclusively for low-income seniors. At least one family member must be over 62 years of age.
In the building at 1940 Turnbull Ave. There are 154 apartments available: 101 of them will be offered at market rate, 53 will be reserved for those seniors in the area who earn 50% of the median annual income.

All 53 available apartments are studios. There is no monthly rent. In each apartment can accommodate up to two people.
How to apply
Those wishing to apply must have a gross annual income of $62 or less.
Amenities available to residents include energy-efficient appliances, free Wi-Fi, communal laundry, bicycle and luggage lockers, air conditioning, outdoor terrace and security cameras. Intercoms and a nurse call will be installed in each block to provide additional security for elderly residents. Tenants will be responsible for electricity, including air conditioning.
This building is funded through the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development's Senior Affordable Rental Apartment program and the New York State Department of Housing Rehabilitation's Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program.
Applicants must meet housing and income requirements. New Yorkers will receive preference.
