According to official site of the lottery, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.
Players select six numbers from two separate pools of numbers - five different numbers from 1 to 70 and one number from 1 to 25 - or choose Easy Pick. The player wins the jackpot when all six winning numbers match.
Jackpot winners can choose between 30 annual payouts, each five percent higher than the last, or a lump sum payout.
Mega Millions draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays in 45 states, Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 per ticket.
