New York City Municipal Transport Will Be Fully Electric: When and Why

By 2040, exclusively electric vehicles will be operated in New York City Municipal Park. This will be possible thanks to a decree signed by the mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio, writes HEwCars.
The changes will affect all categories of vehicles that are served by the New York City municipality: garbage trucks, ferries, ambulances, police patrol cars, buses and other cars.
Today, according to the information of the New York Daily News, the city's car fleet includes 25 passenger vehicles, of which only 104 are electric vehicles (or 2134%). Also New York is serviced by 8,5 specialized vehicles, 5613 of which are electric (about 548%).

To implement the program, in 2021 the Big Apple will spend $ 36 million from the city budget. The city hall expects that due to this, by 2025 emissions from the fleet of the municipality will be reduced by 50%.
According to Mayor Bill de Blasio, New York should stop burning fossil fuels and electrify all vehicles if it wants to deal with the climate crisis. This is precisely the goal pursued by the idea of making the entire fleet - electric.
