Unprovoked attack: in Manhattan, a man attacked bus passengers with a knife

On Tuesday afternoon, May 5, a man with a knife attacked two passengers on a bus traveling in upper Manhattan. As a result, one of the victims is in critical condition, law enforcement officials said.

The incident occurred on the M100 bus on the corner of 129th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattanville at about 15 p.m.

A young man who witnessed the incident said that the attack appeared to be unprovoked. “I got on the bus, looked around and saw an unhealthy man with a knife,” said Oliver Reed. “I don't know if it was a machete. He stabbed one person several times. I don’t know what made him, but he approached another man who was closer to the front of the bus and cut him. ”

As a result, the 44-year-old man was stabbed in the leg, and the 58-year-old is in critical condition, and his attacker cut his face.

The police encouraged both men to survive.

Reid said the passengers were scared. “I kept telling the bus driver to stop the bus, open the doors, and I basically tried to open the doors myself,” he said. “When the bus stopped, we all got off, and the attacker got off the bus and tried to escape.”

Reed noted that he himself had called the police. The attacker was taken into custody at the crime scene.

MTA officials said the bus driver was not involved in the incident and followed the proper protocol.
