Internet companies should provide low-income families in New York City with broadband Wi-Fi access for $ 15 a month. This program is part of state budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year, adopted this week, writes New York Daily News.

The authorities have long tried to pass legislation that would expand the access of state residents to the Internet.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stressed the importance of internet access during the pandemic. He promoted this norm based on the idea of the need for the Internet for distance learning in schools and universities.
“Distance learning works if the student has the right devices and Internet access, if the student's family can afford Internet access,” he said. "So this is a very important and serious reform to ensure social justice."
