Contests with prizes: New York will be awarded for participation in the population census

New York has found a way to encourage residents to fill out questionnaires as soon as possible. To this end, NYC Counts is launching three competitions in partnership with Seamless, Lyft and The Museum of Modern Art. The prizes awaiting the winners are announced at city website.
About contests
In the period 17 from August to September 21 everyone has a chance to win one of the prizes simply by filling out the questionnaire.
Here are the prizes you can win:
- 6 gift cards worth $ 1000 each from Seamless;
- 100 $ 50 Lyft Vouchers
- 100 annual Citi Bike subscriptions worth $ 179 each;
- 25 annual passes to the Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 worth $ 200 each.
How to take part
In the application, indicate in which of the competitions you would like to take part (you can participate in several competitions at once). The earlier you apply, the more chances you have of winning.

Why it is so important to take part in the census
The 2020 census will be a critical component of New York's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

State and local officials use census data to change constituency boundaries, including elections for Congress, state legislatures, and school districts.

The census determines how many seats New York will get in Congress and the funding the state will receive for housing, health care, education, transportation, and more. Every year, the federal government distributes nearly $ 1,5 trillion across states and cities for education, housing, transportation, healthcare, and more. Every day, New York City relies on census data to make critical decisions, including vaccination planning, affordable housing, sanitation and transportation services, and the myriad additional life-saving programs and services that every New Yorker benefits from.
If New York does not reach a complete and accurate count in this year's census, the state could lose up to two congressional seats. Given the dire economic situation caused by the pandemic, the city cannot risk losing any representation in the bodies where decisions are made on a daily basis about the country's economic and political future.

Currently, the US Census Bureau estimates that there are nearly 1,7 million households in New York City that have not yet completed their census forms. The lowest activity rates are observed in areas where blacks and immigrants live.
