New Yorkers with Food Stamps Get More Money

New Yorkers receiving SNAP food aid, known as food stamps, will receive fringe benefits until at least June 2021. The decision was made by the State's Office of Temporary Assistance and Disabilities to help people cope with the economic hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Details told the publication Silive.
The agency announced that New Yorkers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive a 15 percent increase in monthly food benefits from January to June 2021. For the current month, the surcharge will come separately. From February to June, the amount of the premium will be included in the regular monthly payment.
In January, all Food Stamp Benefit recipients will receive the maximum benefit amount. The maximum monthly SNAP benefit is $ 234 for a single person and $ 782 for a family of four.

“The pandemic has caused enormous economic hardship for so many New Yorkers, and this supplement to the guide will help people feed themselves and their families,” said Mike Hine, head of the Office of Temporary Assistance and Disability. "This temporary increase in benefits will bring some relief to vulnerable New Yorkers as we go through these unprecedented times."
Additional payments will be delivered to existing benefit transfer accounts and can be accessed from the appropriate account card. Like regular SNAP benefits, supplemental benefits can be used to purchase food from retail grocery stores. Any unused benefits will automatically carry over to the next month.

Difficult New Yorkers during the pandemic are heavily dependent on Food Stamp Benefits, according to the state. The state had nearly 2,8 million SNAP recipients as of October, up 8% from the same month in 2019.
