Requirements for entering the United States have changed: who and how can now get to New York

Rules for US Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Immigrant Visa Holders

Beginning November 8, all U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and immigrantsarriving in America by plane must present one of the following documents before boarding a flight to the United States:

• With a complete vaccination: confirmation of vaccination and negative result of a COVID-19 PLR test done no more than 3 days before the trip.
• If you have NOT been fully vaccinated: a negative result of a PLR test for COVID-19, made no more than a day before the trip.
• Children under 2 years of age do not need testing. There are also exceptions for people who have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days before traveling. Learn more about these requirements can be found on the CDC website.

Rules for Non-US Citizens Visiting the Country on a Nonimmigrant Visa

Beginning November 8, all non-US citizens entering the country on a nonimmigrant visa must provide BOTH documents:

• Confirmation complete vaccinationif the passenger does not meet the criteria exceptions.
• Negative COVID-19 test result or COVID-19 recovery documentation. The timing of this test depends on the vaccination status and age (described in the first paragraph).

What is complete vaccination

You are considered fully vaccinated if 2 weeks (14 days) have passed since:

• single injection vaccines (Johnson & Johnson);
• the second dose of the double vaccine.

If you do not meet these requirements, you are NOT fully vaccinated.

What vaccines are taken

Those who have received one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the following vaccines can enter the United States:

• Pfizer BioNTech
• Modern
• AstraZeneca
• Covaxine
• covishield
• BIBP / Sinopharm
• A nephew

Those vaccinated with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine will not be allowed to enter the United States.

Negative test result, recovery document or proof of vaccination in English

Airlines and other aircraft operators must be able to verify the test result and vaccination document. Therefore, if your documents are not written in English, you should check with the airline or aircraft operator before traveling, you may need to translate it.

Quarantine after arrival in the USA

CDC recommends to all travelers:

• pass the test on COVID-19 3-5 days after flying to the United States.
• isolate and get additional testing when symptoms appear.
• follow all local epidemiological guidelines or requirements.

For travelers who have not received a full vaccination, the CDC additionally recommends:

• Stay home and be quarantined for the full 7 days after travel. This rule applies even if the result of a test taken 3-5 days after arrival in the United States was negative.
• If you haven't taken the test, stay at home for 10 days after your trip.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

If you are not a US citizen or lawful permanent resident and your child is a US citizen, then you still CANNOT enter America without vaccination using your child's status. That is, you need to show proof full vaccination against COVID-19 to board a flight to the United States. If you do not qualify to be considered fully vaccinated, you will not be able to board a flight to the United States.
