New York's Christmas symbol this year is the spruce tree, native to the Florida village of Orange County, New York. Its height is almost 24 meters, and its weight is over 14 tons. Note that this year the Christmas tree is almost two meters higher than last year's, and heavier by two tons.

Spruce will be decorated with giant garlands 8 kilometers long and a crystal star created by the masters of Swarovski.

According to the Rockefeller Center's official page at Facebook, at the end of the holidays, the tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. There it will be recycled for use as lumber for the organization's construction projects.

This tree has a very interesting fate. It was presented to the city by New Yorker Carol Schulz, who bought a seedling back in 1959. Initially, a young tree grew in a pot on a coffee table, after which it was transplanted into the yard, and it eventually grew into a huge spruce, which now also became famous.

Recall that the first Christmas tree was installed at Rockefeller Plaza back in the 1930 years. The tradition to establish the main New Year tree appeared here since the construction of the Rockefeller Center complex of workers installed conifers in the center of the construction site.
