Unexpectedly: in New York, people under the age of 21 are forbidden to buy whipped cream

Everyone knows that when buying alcohol or tobacco products, you must have an identity card with you. But if you want to buy a can of Reddi Whip at the grocery store, you will also be asked for documents, reports NBC New York.
A photo from New York's Albany County has made the rounds on the internet thanks to a surprise message from a store. Apparently, the sign was posted in front of the refrigerator door at Stewart's Convenience Store.
The caption reads: “Starting 8/12/22 we will be asking for an ID to buy whipped cream! The buyer must be at least 21 years old!”
So why did stores suddenly decide that only adults can get delicious ice cream toppings? Because jars can be used as an inhaler. Some teenagers use nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas) in a can of whipped cream to get high. This is more commonly referred to as "whipping".

As a result, New York State has effectively banned anyone under the age of 21 from buying cans of whipped cream.
And this is not even such a new limitation. The law, sponsored by New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo of Queens, went into effect in November 2021.
