Nine new schools will open in New York this fall

In the 2024-2025 school year in New York nine new schools will be opened. The city administration is making good on its promise to increase the number of educational facilities in areas with overcrowded schools.

The head of the city Department of Education, David Banks, promises that the new schools will be innovative and meet the demands and needs of modern children.

The Schools Development and Design Authority (SCA) works with principals, parents and partner organizations to design and create innovative learning spaces that effectively educate today's children.

The Department of Education has not been specific about what exactly it means by innovative learning models. What is known is that the emphasis will be on leadership development, as well as long-term strategic planning for each school. The curriculum will focus on debate (the ability to defend one's point of view), multilingualism and experiential learning.

Five of these schools will be located in newly constructed buildings that are designed to “offer students the optimal learning environment and resources for success” (unfortunately, the department has not explained what exactly those environments and resources include).
