An exhibition of ice sculptures will be held on Governors Island: you can also try your hand at creating them

In February, Governors Island is hosting a very cool ice sculpture show, and you can participate in it. Sculptors and artists from New York are invited to submit ideas for an ice sculpture. Those who are selected will receive materials, expert guidance, and $2000 to participate. Read more about this event told the publication Time-out.

If you prefer to sit and watch, you can watch the sculptors create their ice masterpieces at the Winter Ice Sculpture Show on Governors Island on Saturday, February 18th.

If you want to submit an ice sculpture design, you need to hurry, because applications must be submitted before Tuesday, January 17th. Creative people of any direction have the right to send ideas; they can work alone or in a team.

Applications will be reviewed by an expert panel made up of New York City cultural leaders, including Shintaro Okamoto (Okamoto Studio), known for his stunning ice sculptures. A $2000 reward will be awarded to 10 selected entries for participation, as well as tools, production materials, and the mentoring of a professional ice carver from Okamoto Studio to assist on the day of the event.

The ice sculpture show has been held for the second year. Among last year's sculptures were an eagle, a dog and a lamb.

The event aims to democratize ice carving, it aims to show what is open to all creators, regardless of direction and previous experience. While ice sculpture competitions and exhibitions have a long history around the world, they are not usually seen on a large scale in New York City and are often limited to ice carving artists.

During this show, visitors can watch live ice carvings, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Among other things, there will be music, as well as hot drinks and the opportunity to vote for your favorite sculpture. The sculptures will be on display for as long as the frost lasts.
