Some types of chocolate sold in New York are deadly: the manufacturer recalls them

The Food and Drug Administration warns New Yorkers that certain types of chocolate sold in the state can be fatal or cause illness, shares Hudson Valley Post.

Ferrero USA is voluntarily recalling its range of Kinder Happy Moments chocolates and the Kinder Mix chocolate treat basket. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the product may be contaminated with salmonella.

The voluntary recall is for these products that are sold throughout the US:

The products are being recalled because they were manufactured in a facility where Salmonella bacteria were found.

“While there are no reported cases in the United States to date, Ferrero is voluntarily recalling products as a precaution. Because there have been cases of salmonella in European consumers of products manufactured at the same facility, ”the FDA said in a statement.

According to the FDA, no other Kinder products made for the US market are included in this recall.

“Ferrero deeply regrets this situation. We take food safety very seriously and every step we take is based on our concern for consumers. We will continue to work with the Food and Drug Administration to resolve this issue,” the company said. Anyone who bought chocolate is asked not to eat it.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the weak or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Rarely, salmonella contamination can lead to the body entering the bloodstream and causing more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

Another company also recalled the chocolate.

Tova Industries is voluntarily recalling Carbquik Mug Cake Double Chocolate Chunk OU-Dairy because it contains undeclared milk.

“People with allergies or severe sensitivities to milk are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction,” the FDA warns.

Approximately 1700 retail packs of Carbquik Mug Cake Double Chocolate Chunk were distributed through the online store and distributed to consumers nationwide through the mail service, officials said.

The product is sold in bags with 6 individually wrapped servings in each bag. The UPC listed on the product is 11283149263.

“During an allergen test, our company found that the chocolate chips in the product contained a small percentage (< 1%) of the milk allergen. The package was found to be missing the required milk allergen warning. Therefore, the entire product was immediately withdrawn from circulation on February 23, 2022. There is no health risk associated with this product for people who are not allergic to milk,” said Tova Industries.
