Christmas surprise: an owl was found in the branches of the main New York tree

A festive surprise - a tiny owl - was spotted among the massive branches by a worker helping to set up a Christmas tree near Rockefeller Center. The publication writes about an unusual find USA Today.

The small bird, now called Rockefeller, was discovered on Monday, November 16. The bird was immediately taken to the Wildlife Veterinary Center in Saughertis, New York.

The center's founder, Ellen Kalish, said the owl was dehydrated and hungry, but otherwise unharmed.

“I think she really came all the way with the tree. I think that when they wrapped the tree, the owl must have been trapped inside. The fact that she was not crushed or injured is amazing, ”said Kalisz.

According to her, this bird is an adult male North American Saw-whet owl. It is a North American owl species found in the provinces of Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the mountains of eastern Tennessee. This is one of the smallest owls in the world.

The veterinarian who examined the owl wrote out a certificate of her health. After the discovery, the bird ate many mice and is now on the mend.

“We took her to the vet and took an X-ray,” added Kalish. "The veterinarian said there were no fractures, nothing will stop us from letting her go."

The owl is scheduled to be released back into the wild next weekend.

Recall that the main Christmas tree in New York arrived in the city on November 14 and was installed in the square near Rockefeller Center.

The official tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 2.
