'I would shoot everyone in the head': a professor from New York threatened students and lost his job

A professor at Wagner College in Staten Island was removed from office after allegedly threatening to kill a group of students while thinking aloud that he would "shoot each of them in the head."

Law enforcement sources said that an 77-year-old psychology professor, Richard Brower, made a tirade with one of the students regarding one of his student groups. This happened during class, writes Gothamist.

“My media class is disgusting,” he complained. "If I had a pistol, I would have shot each of them in the head."

With that said, Brower drew attention to one of the students, asking, "Are you in my media class?" When the student confirmed this, the professor allegedly replied: “Beware! I'm on alert. "

The student quickly notified the campus security personnel who suspended Brower from work. They accompanied him from campus and ransacked his office. The campus apparently only notified the police a few hours later. The students were sent an email stating, “According to reports from several students, the professor made disturbing comments of a violent nature during class yesterday. The students reported this to our public security office. The college took immediate action, removing the professor from office, taking him off campus, and indefinitely suspended. The college also called the New York City Police Department; together they are investigating the case. "

“We were able to quickly deal with this potential threat because the students immediately reported what they heard. Wagner College takes the safety and well-being of its students, faculty and staff very seriously. We all work together to defend the college, ”the letter said.

A police source said that so far “there is nothing to indicate that he had the means to carry out the threat,” but the professor could still be charged with the threat following the investigation.

Richard Brower has been teaching at the college for over 25 years and teaching three courses: Psychology of Creativity, Psychology of the Media, and Theory of Personality.
