Plant your yard: New Yorkers will be given away thousands of free trees

From April 15 through May, the New York Restoration Project, a local nonprofit that plants trees, renews gardens, and maintains green spaces around the city, will distribute 3500 trees for free to New Yorkers in all five boroughs. How to get a seedling, said the publication Time-out.
For Earth Month, this popular and impressive event has been held regularly since 2010. It bears various native tree species including American Persimmon, American Plum, Black Cherry, Eastern Redbud, Elderberry, Flowering Dogwood, Highbush Blueberry, Sweetbay Magnolia, Sycamore, Willow Oak, Winged Sumac, Witchhazel.

In addition to providing greenery for citizens, trees serve many other important roles in New York City's sustainability, including providing wildlife habitat, improving air quality, lowering temperatures, and reducing stormwater runoff. It is very important that we take care of them.
“We need to grow more trees in New York if we really want to face the climate crisis,” said Lynn Bodnar Kelly, executive director of the New York Restoration Project.
