This year a record number of people took part in the parade - more than 130. During the procession, a young American, whose parents are from Russia, proposed to his girlfriend, who also has Russian roots. The edition writes about it TASS.
How was the parade
The parade of Santa Clauses and Snow Maidens, which took place on December 22, was held in New York for the sixth time.
The movement began near the headquarters of St. Nicholas on 97th Street; then the procession participants drove several blocks into the subway, immediately occupying four train cars.
During the parade, participants led a round dance around a Christmas tree in the center of Bryant Park, sang New Year and Russian folk songs to the applause of tourists and New Yorkers.
The parade ended near the Rockefeller Center, where the main tree of New York is installed.
During the whole procession, fabulous heroes handed out to passers-by traditional Russian souvenirs, sweets and fruits, and told about New Year’s customs adopted in Russia.

As Marina Ivannikova, Deputy President of the Russian Youth of America Society, which organized the parade in central New York, noted, this procession has already become a good tradition. Thus, its participants want to share "a festive mood, our Russian New Year songs, smiles with everyone around."
Time to escape from New Year's bustle
The time for the parade is not chosen by chance, but “precisely on these days, when the city plunged into bustle and New Year's fever. “Passers-by are happy to stop, smile at us in response and remember that all this fuss is in honor of the New Year and Christmas, when everyone hopes for a miracle, a fairy tale, and we make them a little more real,” Ivannikova said.
An offer of marriage
This year's parade was not without unusual stories. So, during the festive procession, when the participants danced in a round dance in the central square of the city - Times Square - lovers approached them. At this time, the young man made a marriage proposal to his girlfriend, and presented an engagement ring.
As it turned out, the lovers are the children of Russian compatriots. Although, as the edition writes, they already speak English among themselves.
It was no coincidence that the future groom chose the moment to propose. “When the future groom saw Russian fairy-tale characters, he quickly made a decision that it was in the environment of Snow Maidens and Ded Morozov that an offer should be made,” the source said.
The story ended successfully, the bride and groom received congratulations and wishes for a fabulous life and real happiness in the coming year and beyond.
Parade Results
As the organizers noted, this year there were most people at the parade. “Many came from other states - Connecticut, New Jersey and even Florida,” Ivannikova said.
According to her, there were Snow Maidens from Russian St. Petersburg, Russians, Belarusians, and Tatars. Also this year for the first time a lot of children took part.
Also, the organizers noted that the procession was coordinated with the local authorities - the New York Police Department, and was held at the expense of the participants' personal funds.
At the end of the parade, Santas and Snegurochka went to congratulate the upcoming holidays Soviet veterans living in nursing homes or left without relatives.
