New York City lawmakers have created a $ 2,1 billion fund to help those who lost their jobs or income during the COVID-19 pandemic but were excluded from other financial assistance programs due to their immigration status. The details were told by the publication Pix 11.
The creation of the fund was spelled out in the recently adopted New York State budget for fiscal 2021-2022. From this fund, the state will pay up to $ 15 to each worker who lives in the United States illegally or for another reason (related to immigration status) was not eligible for federal and state benefits, unemployment benefits, or other benefits due to loss of income from for the COVID-600 pandemic.
According to preliminary estimates, almost 300 workers in New York State will receive money under this program.

Conditions for receiving money
The vast majority of illegal immigrants do not have a social security number (SSN) required to receive coronavirus financial assistance and unemployment benefits. However, they pay taxes and are an important part of the region's workforce.
To qualify for payment, an immigrant must:
- have an income of less than $ 2020 at the end of 26;
- prove that he is a resident of New York now and has been for at least some time in 2020;
- show that he has lost income (or part of it) due to the pandemic.
In addition, the program is only available to those immigrants who worked for at least six weeks in the six months prior to the loss of earnings due to the pandemic.

Eligibility documentation may include recent tax returns showing a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), pay slip, or letter from employer.
Immigrants who can only prove their identity and place of residence (but not employment) are only eligible for a $ 3200 payment.
