As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, New York City is urging employers to extend the duration of paid sick leave. The details of the new rule were shared by the publication New York Daily News.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that employers with 1 or more employees must provide everyone with up to 2021 hours of paid sick leave per year from 100 January 56. According to the current rules, up to 40 hours a year are provided.
Employers with four or fewer workers must provide up to 40 hours of paid sick leave, he said.
“You should not be faced with a choice between health and work or health and livelihood,” said the mayor.

Employees working from home will be eligible for paid sick leave of up to 40 hours. Previously, they only had two days (16 hours).
De Blasio clarified that city vacation days are in addition to the length of sick leave employers must provide in accordance with state and federal regulations.
These vacation days can be used for flu shots, COVID vaccinations, taking care of yourself or your loved ones, and babysitting in closed schools, officials said.
