Five Winter Carnivals in New York State to Attend with the Family

Shake off the winter blues and immerse yourself in the season in a way that only upstate New Yorkers can enjoy at winter carnivals across the state. Events such as ice castles, fireworks, curling, dog sled racing and more break up the monotony of gloomy and cold winter days. Where to look for such fun, said the publication new york state.

- Where: Saranac lake
Details: This 10-day festival includes an ice palace, a gala parade, an icicle contest, ice racing, snow rugby, a chocolate festival, fireworks and more. This year's novelty is Blue Buns Wheel-a-Palooza, a bike ride around the city and a family evening at the ice palace.

- Where: Lake George Village
Details: Every weekend in February, you can find a lot of winter activities, including ice castles, parade, hot chocolate, chili, snow golf, fireworks and more.

- Where: Downtown Syracuse
Details: it's a 10-day event that includes fireworks, sled dog racing, ice skating, an annual treasure hunt sponsored by syracuse.com and The Post-Standard.

- Where: Main Street, Cooperstown
Details: Plan a winter weekend in historic Cooperstown and enjoy hot cocoa, climbing competitions, yoga, a Phonogram battle, a snowman contest and more.

- Where: Canandaigua, NY
Details: this three-day carnival is the second annual event of its kind in the Finger Lakes. It will feature the Taste of the Finger Lakes show, food trucks, ice bars, ice sculptures, live music, lakeside bonfires, alpacas, evening fireworks over Lake Canandaigua and more.
