He decided that if a musical instrument cannot sound, then let it shine. About how a Russian-speaking programmer from New Jersey got such an unusual hobby, he told in the video of the publication "Voice of America".
Slava Korolev, a programmer from New Jersey, makes lamps from musical instruments. So he brings back to life broken horns, flutes and horns. “In them, in French horns, for example, there is already everything - both harmony and some kind of balance - and you cannot add anything there, except a light bulb. But you can add a light bulb if you do not spoil the harmony. And this is the challenge for my handicraft, ”said Korolev.
By his first profession, Glory Korolev is a musician. He always knew how to appreciate not only how the instruments sound, but also their appearance.
He once had a baritone. “On which when I played, I had a concussion,” recalls the man. - There are very low vibrations. It was very difficult. I hated him. But I have always admired the interweaving of its pipes, pipes and valves, it is very beautiful, it was simply mesmerizing. "
An unusual hobby arose at the moment when Korolev saw a non-playing horn in a flea market. He was so enraptured by the beauty of a musical instrument that he bought it and made a lamp out of it. Friends who came to visit him asked to create the same for them. This is how an unusual hobby turned into a business. Now the garage in the house of Glory is both a warehouse and a workshop where he creates unusual lamps.
In the process, he selects non-working tools, and then selects a light bulb for them, imagining how it will look as a result. “These are my favorite moments,” he says.
Today Korolev gives all his free time from work to an exciting pastime. Quarantine turned out to be especially productive for him, because going to restaurants and meeting with friends did not distract him from his beloved business. In just three months, he managed to make as many as 20 lamps.
The master especially enjoys working with brass. “It (this material - ed.) Is beautiful, and it is aging very nobly. And the more rust and all sorts of specks on old instruments, the more I like them, ”says Slava.

It only works with tools that definitely cannot be repaired. According to Korolev, sometimes these are instruments that “seem to have passed through”. Then, in the process of creating an entertaining lamp, the master comes up with which part of this or that pipe to use, where to hide the switch, and so on. “I am very proud of the way I came up with the idea of embedding switches in pipes that have valves. This is my know-how, (about which - Ed.) I don't tell anyone, "Korolev admits.
As a result, when a client first turns on the lamp, it gives him a wave of delight. “Because it’s unexpected, it’s pleasant, it’s cool and logical,” says the former musician.
He himself notes that his lamps were not created in order to fulfill the function of conventional lighting devices. These are rather attractive home furnishings that give a reason to talk.
