The ice rink in Central Park will turn into a disco rollerdrome this summer

From June 16 to October 1, the Wallman Ice Rink in Central Park will be transformed into a 1970s-style roller disco called DiscOasis. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Niles Rogers will be the "Master of Groove" and Main Dance Headliner, reports New York Daily News.
“Inline skating is back,” said Rogers. “This is New York, this is Central Park, where some of the most important events of my life took place.”
DiscOasis is advertised as an addictive music project with nightly roller skating. Theatrical performances, performances by DJs, artists and special guests are also waiting for guests. In addition, the 1700 square meter rollerdrome will host open skating classes during the daytime.
Vice President and General Manager Stephanie Tomlin said the space will be vibrant, diverse and inclusive. It will contribute to the economic recovery of New York.
The cost of the entrance ticket will vary from 17 to 23 dollars.
“I think New York is going to blow this dance floor. It's incredibly cool because I personally handled this project,” Rogers said after Tuesday's opening, which Mayor Adams attended.
Rogers has created timeless dance hits in his five-year career for stars such as David Bowie, Diana Ross, Madonna, Daft Punk and Lady Gaga. He said that agents from Creative Artists invited him for a new entertainment business model.
“They called me to be the curator of the choreographic section. And then I decided that I could play a big role,” he said. “They liked the idea, so I became part of the designer of the entire music curation process. And it was impressive.”

The disco was created by Constellation Immersive in partnership with Live Nation and the Los Angeles Media Foundation. DiscOasis creator and producer Tao Nguyen of Los Angeles-based event company Constellation Immersive said the return of roller skating rinks to downtown is not just another trend. And she added that Rogers was always at the top of the list of potential employees.
“He is a living legend and therefore we are incredibly honored and happy to have him as a creative partner in this endeavor. And you know, he's an avid roller skater," she said.
The Central Park Rolldrom is the second skating rink recently opened in the city. Fashion model Liberty Ross and her husband Jimmy Iovine opened Flippers Roller Boogie Palace at Rockefeller Center last month, the first roller-skating rink since 1940.
