For decades, US wages have risen, says Issy Romem, a research fellow at the ADP Research Institute. And over the past few years, against the backdrop of a pandemic and inflation, salaries began to grow even more, reports CNBC.
Romem is part of a team of researchers who recently surveyed the 53 largest areas in the US. They found out where salaries of employees grew the most between 2019 and 2021. Average monthly earnings in the US have risen from $6 in 325 to $2019 in 6.

“Labour shortage is the key word that explains what's going on,” says Sinem Buber, lead economist at ZipRecruiter. We don't have enough people and too many jobs. Such a tight job market leads employers to compete for workers and raise wages as a result.”
Employers are also trying to keep wages in line with inflation, she said. Last year, it affected food and housing prices. The consumer price index rose 8,3% year on year in August.
Salary - even after promotion - not enough
Many workers say that salaries are not enough even after the increase.
“We can afford less with more pay. This applies to every percentage on the pay spectrum,” says Buber. “Workers are demanding higher wages right now because they are unable to keep up with high inflation.”
